El escenario / The bare stage

(Berlin, Germany)

Puedo elegir cualquier espacio vacío y llamarlo escenario. Una persona atraviesa este espacio mientras otra la observa y eso basta para que el acto teatral se desencadene.

I can take any empty space and call it a bare stage. A man walks across an empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and this is all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged.

Cielo y tierra / Heaven and earth

(Ría de Arousa, Galicia, Spain)

No soy nada.
Nunca seré nada.
No puedo querer ser nada.
Aparte de eso, tengo en mí todos los sueños del mundo

I am nothing.
I'll never be anything.
I couldn't want to be something.
Apart from that, I have in me all the dreams in the world

Noche eterna / Eternal night

(Madrid, Spain)

Tómame, oh noche eterna, en tus
brazos y llámame hijo.

Yo soy un rey que
voluntariamente abandoné mi
trono de ensueños y cansancios.

Mi espada, pesada en brazos
flojos, a manos viriles
y calmas entregué;
y mi cetro y corona yo los dejé
en la antecámara, hechos pedazos.

Mi cota de malla, tan inútil,
mis espuelas, de un tintineo tan fútil,
las dejé por la fría escalinata.

Desvestí la realeza, cuerpo y alma,
y regresé a la noche antigua y serena
como el paisaje al morir el día.

O night eternal, call me your son
And take me into your arms. I’m a king
Who relinquished, willingly,
My throne of dreams and tedium.

My sword, which dragged my weak arms down,
I surrendered to strong and steady hands,
And in the anteroom I abandoned
My shattered scepter and crown.

My spurs that jingled to no avail
And my useless coat of mail
I left on the cold stone steps.

I took off royalty, body and soul,
And returned to the night so calm, so old,
Like the landscape when the sun sets.

El significado del arte / The meaning of art

(Chicago, USA)

 Ella tenía razón.
 Nunca se veia bonita.
Se veía como si fuera arte,
 y el arte no tiene que verse bonito;
 tiene que hacerte sentir algo.

 She was right.
 She never looked nice.
 She looked like art,
and art wasn't supposed to look nice,
it was supposed to make you feel something.
